Our craft
The age-old craft of the artisan baker has been passed down through the generations of the Cavan family. Quality ingredients plus years of tradition, experience and skill all combine to produce the theatre and alchemy of Cavan Bakery.
Sourdough!
Did you know that sourdoughs are made with just flour, water and salt – no added yeast, fat or additives? Together with lots of time, time and more time a loaf of bread is produced which is as natural as you can get. As such it is nutritious, digestible and is filled with probiotics that are great for gut health. Our most popular bread is our plain sourdough but we make a fantastic range including Rosemary and Sea Salt; Olive; Multiseed; Malted and our very own Sourdough 17. Our story
The Cavan Bakery was founded in 1929 by David Cavan in Twickenham. What began as a single shop rooted in traditional baking has grown into a thriving family run business with 14 shops across South West London.
In 2022, we moved to a purpose-built bakery facility in Walton on Thames to support our continued growth and commitment to quality. This expansion allows us to craft more of the artisan products our customers love, combining time honoured techniques with a modern approach.
We remain true to David Cavan’s guiding belief “Quality Tells”. Using premium ingredients and time-honoured methods to bring you artisan bakes made to be loved. From our bakery to your table.
Looking Forward
Here at Cavan Bakery we have a very keen eye on the future – developing and innovating new products, opening more shops, selling through our wholesale partners and taking our offerings online.
Our bakery products are truly local and we source our ingredients from local independent traders as much as possible, resulting in very low food-miles. We close the ‘keep it local’ circle by donating our daily food surplus to community kitchens, food banks, homeless shelters, breakfast clubs and similar initiatives. As well as continuing our long tradition of supporting the local community, responsibly redistributing our surplus in this manner reduces our food waste significantly.
Continuing the theme of sustainability, we insist that our packaging is both manufactured from recycled materials and fully recyclable wherever possible. We also sell reusable coffee cups, cotton bread storage bags and jute shopping bags in all our shops to encourage cup and bag re-use. In addition, we introduced electric vehicles to our fleet in 2019.
Supporting our community
